defensive

I had my first lets say interesting experience since announcing we were adopting.  I had to call the kids doc to arrange for them all to get physicals.  The nurse i was speaking to asked "just how many kids were we adopting".  Not rudely exactly, but not all that nice either.  I said, "just one", and then thought, why am i qualifing this?  So i joked "only 6"  :)  And she said, so that makes....to which i replied, 2 boys and 2 girls.  But really, why does it matter?  If i want to bring home 6 kids and feel capable, well then thats ok too right?  I think it just rubbed me the wrong way.  Doesn't matter in the long run, just something i've been ruminating on since it happened.  I know i need to move on and of course i will, just i've been stuck on it for some reason...

  1. You can't imagine all of the comments like that that we get ... with 12 kids. Little jabs here and there ... not outright "mean", but definitely not nice, either.
